Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Elevating diversity, equity, and inclusion across our organization, within our communities, and throughout our industry

As a top 10 investment consulting firm nationwide*, we believe that we are positioned to drive the change to a more equitable future. Across our organization, we seek to make Meketa an open, supportive, and compassionate place to work for people from all walks of life.

Throughout our organization, we implement a mosaic of committees to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices into all aspects of our business model and investment process. The committees are structured to represent the diversity of thought among people of various racial and ethnic backgrounds as well as experience levels at Meketa. They are important to identifying and advocating best practices for the firm, overseeing diversity in our manager research process, maintaining and evolving our thought leadership, and connecting our communities and volunteer resources. See our Corporate Responsibility Report for more information on our internal committee structure.

More granularly, our internal DEI practices start with our hiring and recruiting processes where we have a diversity-focused internship program and enhanced recruitment from historically black colleges and universities, and diverse- and women-based organizations. These practices continue on through our employee retention efforts where we have implemented formal networking and mentoring programs, inclusivity training for all employees, including additional training for senior management, and a DEI learning library.

We have also established an employee resource group (ERG) program that currently consists of five employee-led, self-directed and voluntary groups:

Within our communities

We focus on supporting diverse-owned businesses and organizations that promote social equality.

Meketa supports local, racially diverse‑owned and operated, women‑owned and operated, and veteran-owned and operated businesses as well as organizations that promote social justice and/or underserved communities. Further, our employees frequently participate in Meketa-coordinated volunteer activities and charitable giving, which are often driven by our Annual Day of Service events and donation matching challenges. A sampling of organizations we have supported include:

Throughout our industry

We work to effect change and make the institutional investment industry more resilient, sustainable, and successful for participants.

In an effort to continue to include more diverse managers in our clients’ portfolios, we host semi-annual Public and Private Markets Emerging and Diverse Manager Research Days to broaden our exposure to small and diverse firms. These Research Days also include roundtable discussions that feature industry experts on topics pertinent to the success of emerging and diverse managers.

Meketa also reviews efforts of investment management firms to improve DEI within their organizations. We therefore evaluate and rate managers on their DEI practices, which we believe strengthens organizations and outcomes for clients. Results of our DEI Questionnaire are published annually.

Finally, Meketa is a founding member of the Institutional Investing Diversity Cooperative (IIDC) and the Investment Consultants Sustainability Working Group – US (ICSWG-US). We also actively participate in various industry organizations that seek to improve DEI in institutional investment, including:

While Meketa has for many years been among the industry leaders in promoting DEI initiatives, we recognize this is an ongoing effort. We look forward to continuing to engage with employees, managers and all those within the consulting community to further promote and advance diversity, equity and inclusion.
